Additional authority
An emergency ordinance gives the police and enforcement additional options to intervene. For example, groups in the designated area that cause nuisance or block the passage can be sent away. Groups can also be separated if this leads to unrest or unsafe situations. Furthermore, action can be taken more quickly against behavior such as aggression, nuisance and disruption of public order.
Arrests
On May 28, the municipality designated part of the coastal village as a safety risk area after unrest and violence involving groups of young people. The following weekend the municipality switched to one emergency ordinance. This measure was introduced on the weekend of May 30 and 31.
The reason was, among other things, a turbulent Pentecost weekend, where many incidents took place on and around the beach. There were riots and beach tent owners closed early because they no longer felt safe. It was also quite warm and extremely busy in Zandvoort during that period.
Temporary measure
The measure introduced today applies from 4:00 PM this afternoon until 12:00 AM on Monday. It is emphasized that the municipality can extend, amend or stop the emergency ordinance earlier. “That depends on the situation.”
