Mathieu van der Poel must pay a fine after the time trial of the Tour of Switzerland. The cyclist from Alpecin-Premier Tech pulled into the hot seat his suit down. That costs him about 540 euros.
Van der Poel impressed with a strong time trial and was the fastest man in the hot seatwhere the fastest rider at that moment takes place. Van der Poel was apparently hot and therefore pulled down his time trial suit, leaving him bare-chested.
Ultimately, Tadej Pogacar beat him by a difference of 31 hundredths, meaning Van der Poel missed out on his first time trial victory as a professional. And it didn’t stop there: the UCI fined him 500 Swiss francs (about 540 euros) because of his bare bark.
“Mathieu van der Poel (ADC) is fined CHF 500 for inappropriate clothing while in the hot seat,” the jury report said.
