Germany won 2-1 against Ivory Coast on Saturday evening thanks to two goals from substitute Denis Undav. The decisive goal only came in the 94th minute. For a long time it did not look like national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team would win, because Ivory Coast was at least equal and held the lead for an hour.
The best chances were for Germany in the opening phase, but Frank Kessié scored the opening goal in the 30th minute on behalf of Ivory Coast, which had already won 1-0 against Ecuador in the first match. The Germans saw two goals disallowed in the first half.
Ivory Coast was also dangerous on a number of occasions after the break with quick outbreaks, but Germany leveled thanks to a goal from substitute Denis Undav in the 68th minute. Both teams then continued to look for victory and had plenty of opportunities on both sides. But in the end it was Undav who decided the game with his second goal in injury time.
Germany is now in first place in the group with six points and is therefore certain of the knockout phase. Ivory Coast remains on three points. Later tonight, Ecuador and Curaçao will play against each other in group E.
