Planting of a new tree by the Japanese imperial couple attracts a lot of attention in the Amsterdam forest

Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako were in the blossom park in the Amsterdam forest on Friday. There they paused at the monument in memory of the victims of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan and planted a new, healthy cherry tree to loud applause. It was the last activity of a three-day state visit and attracted a lot of attention from both the Japanese and Dutch press.
