It was a sweltering day today in the Netherlands. It was even the warmest June 19 ever measured: 34.0 degrees was measured in Ell, Limburg. There was also a lot of puffing and sweating in our province: in Alkmaar 32.8 degrees was measured this afternoon.
There is no official heat record, because the record at the main station in De Bilt has not been broken.
Code orange due to thunderstorms
Code yellow has been in effect all day in North Holland due to the heat. Late in the evening, the KNMI announced an orange code due to the heavy thunderstorm. That warning lasts until 2 a.m. in North Holland. After that, code yellow applies until 3:00 am.
The thunderstorm produces beautiful pictures, as can be seen below. The first two photos were taken from Purmerend, the last from Zwaag.
