Triple Jumper Davisley Velazco26, made quite a splash on Midsummer’s Eve in the Doha Diamond League competition. The Cuban improved his own record by almost 30 centimeters and won the Mittelö world with this season’s top result of 15.13 meters. The tailwind was 1.3 meters per second behind.
The result slips to line 17 on the world’s all-time list. Among active athletes, only an ME woman is ahead Yulimar Rojas (15.74).
Finnish big consumers of athletics remember Velazco from the 2018 World Junior Championships in Tampere. The Cuban won bronze in the U20 series at Ratina Stadium with a result of 13.78.
The first place was Velazco’s second career in the Diamond League. The first title came a couple of weeks ago in Oslo.
