Football fan Donny Strathie flies to Boston to watch Scotland at the World Cup. The 76-year-old dies a few days before the game against Morocco. Now the “Tartan Army” is planning a moving moment.

Donny Strathie actually wanted to fulfill a heartfelt wish: to stand in the stands in a kilt and see Scotland’s footballers at one World Cup cheer on. Just like he had done for many years at Bravehearts games. But that won’t happen anymore.

Because a few days before the game against Morocco (Saturday, 00:00 a.m Live ticker on t-online), for which he had a ticket, he died in Boston at the age of 76, as the Scottish Football Association announced. The circumstances of his death are unknown.

The Tartan Army, Scotland’s most loyal fan community, is calling for action on social media: “It would mean a lot to his family if we can organize a minute of applause in the 76th minute against Morocco.”

National coach Steve Clarke expressed his condolences to Strathie’s family the day before the game. Clarke said: “For all the good news that the World Cup brings for Scotland, this is very sad news. I know Donny’s great wish was to see Scotland play in a World Cup again. Luckily he was able to see us win a game before he passed away.”

Scotland are taking part in a World Cup for the first time in 28 years – a moment Strathie had been waiting for for a long time. According to British media reports, Strathie was himself part of the Tartan Army.
