Nuenen was hit hard by severe weather on the night from Thursday to Friday. A fierce storm swept over the Eindhoven region and broke out in full force above Nuenen. The rain poured down for an hour, while lightning shot continuously across the sky.
Things went badly wrong in several places. Trees on Beukenlaan were blown over by the strong wind. The Opwettenseweg quickly turned into a body of water due to the downpours. Lightning struck a house in Weverstraat. As far as we know, no fire occurred.
Video footage shows how intense the storm was. The rain was driven horizontally through the streets and one flash of light after another illuminated the dark sky. The heavy showers had entered the Netherlands from Belgium and hit Nuenen completely.
The Nuenen fire brigade had its hands full all night with reports of storm damage, flooding and lightning strikes.
On Friday, the KNMI warns of possible thunderstorms later in the afternoon. These may be accompanied by gusts of wind and hail.
