SC Verl has found a successor for Tobias Strobl, who is moving to Wolfsburg: Orest Shala will be the new coach of East Westphalia. The 34-year-old comes to the 3rd division from the Portuguese League 3. Last season, Shala missed a return to the Portuguese lower house with second division relegated CD Mafra in fourth place. In 33 games, the team scored an average of 1.55 points under his leadership.

“Orest is the perfect candidate for our sports club because he lets us play the football that we have deeply anchored in our philosophy. Off the pitch, he communicates openly and honestly, which means he fits perfectly into our sports club family. He knows exactly how to develop young players and at the same time bring highly intense football to the pitch. With him we have found an essential piece of the puzzle for next season and can now do our homework together until the start of preparation,” said sports director Zlatko Janjic.

Shala, who worked in Union Berlin’s youth team for a long time and then worked at FC St. Gallen alongside Peter Zeidler and for the U21, added: “For me, it is an outstanding step to be able to take over this special club in the 3rd league. I see many parallels in my style of play and that of the sports club. My goal is to continue the extremely successful work of the past few years and to make my mark in certain details. The motivation for this new challenge is huge and I am looking forward to working together Zlatko to get started now.”
