Hosting the World Cup is an opportunity for the United States to increase media attention on the sport. Thus, just before the second match of the national team led by Pochettino, “American Wedding: 50 Years of Soccer in The United States” was released on Dazn, a documentary that traces an unprecedented and profound portrait of the evolution of football in the United States.

Conceived, written and produced by Nss with the collaboration of Soccertes, the project was born from a long journey across the States, from New York State to New Jersey, up to South Carolina and Oregon, collecting stories, faces and perspectives that have marked the stages of the development of football in America. The work begins with a chapter dedicated to the history of the New York Cosmos, the team that first brought legends such as Pelé, Cruijff, Chinaglia and Beckenbauer to the United States. Through the stories of Clive Toye – General Manager of the team – and Shep Messing – former goalkeeper – the great media big bang of football across the Atlantic is reconstructed.

But if Pelé is the beginning, Christian Pulisic is the arrival station of this documentary, which reaches the contemporary by analyzing the current rebirth of the movement, in which icons such as the AC Milan attacking midfielder were born in America but soon become global. Specifically, the development of the street soccer community is also investigated, and through the voices of New York mayor Zohran Mamdani and former footballer Kyle Martino it is told how every day in New York this new community increasingly becomes a tool for inclusion and social redemption in urban communities.
