The Argentine ambassador in France, Ian Sielecki confirmed that Javier Milei will be awarded with a prize awarded at the Paris Economic Forum. “During theto ARGENTINA WEEK PARIS, the President and Philippe Aghion, Nobel Prize in Economics 2025, will receive a prize from Paris Economic Forum as the two most influential economists on the planet,” the diplomat posted on his X account. Although there are no confirmed dates for the awards, it is estimated that the event will take place in the middle of this year.

The forum’s decision to distinguish the Argentine president and the French economist as the two most influential economists on the planet synthesizes, according to the organizers, the intersection of two currents that today mark the global debate: on the one hand, libertarian radicalism applied from political power in an emerging economy; on the other, the academic sophistication of the theories on growth and innovation that dominate the agenda in developed countries. According to the promoters of the meeting, the recognition seeks to highlight the capacity of both to influence not only on a theoretical level but also on the concrete orientation of public policies and international discussions.

He Paris Economic Forum is a renowned annual meeting that brings together economists, political leaders, businessmen and academics with the aim of debating the structural transformations of the global economy. Since its creation, at the beginning of the 2010s, the event has consolidated itself as a platform for exchange between Europe and the rest of the world, with a special focus on innovation, growth, inequality and structural reforms. The awards ceremony was incorporated this year as an instance of recognition of figures whose influence transcends academia and is projected on decision-making.

In this framework, Milei’s election responds to his disruptive impact on contemporary economic discussion. Trained as an economist in the University of Belgranomaintained a marked liberal orientation, with a strong influence of the Austrian school and monetarism, building his career defending the postulates of extreme fiscal adjustment, elimination of the deficit and reduction of the role of the State. For the Parisian forum, his figure embodies “the radical application of market principles in contexts of high macroeconomic fragility”, which explains his inclusion among the most influential economists.

Aghion, for its part, is a central reference in the theory of endogenous growth. His work on innovation, competition and technological development has influenced European governments and international organizations. A professor at institutions such as Harvard and the Collège de France, his approach combines the importance of business dynamism with the role of the State in promoting innovation. The joint distinction with Milei, according to the organizers, seeks precisely to reflect the tension between models that privilege the market without intervention and those that consider an articulation between the public and private sectors to be necessary to sustain growth.

The forum’s agenda will also include the so-called Argentina Week Paris, a set of activities scheduled for the second half of the year – with tentative dates towards the last quarter – aimed at positioning the country as a case study. During that week, panels are planned on macroeconomic stabilization, structural reforms, foreign investment and the deregulation process promoted by the libertarian administration, with the participation of European officials, businessmen and analysts.

During his constant tours abroad, the head of state was named with the exotic title of International Ambassador of Light by the orthodox Jewish community Chabad Lubavitch in Miami, a title that marked the beginning of a close relationship with various global forums. In the academic field and in the think tanks dedicated to free market theories, the Higher School of Economics and Business Administration (ESEADE) awarded him a controversial honorary doctorate, which was objected to by the institution’s professors.

Shortly after, his European tour added milestones of high media exposure and medium reputation, highlighting the delivery of the Hayek Medal in Germany and the Juan de Mariana Prize in Spain, both aimed at extolling his role as a disseminator of the ideas of freedom. In that same Madrid journey, the autonomous Executive of Isabel Diaz Ayuso gave him the International Medal of the Community of Madrid, a political gesture with strong repercussions on both sides of the Atlantic.
