With the 7-1 win over Curaçao last Sunday, the German national team laid the foundation for a successful tournament at the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Former national coach Joachim Löw still doesn’t think the DFB team is ready for the big hit. On TikTok, the 66-year-old said, among other things, in the live show “Kroos & Kroos: The World Cup under the microscope”: “The team has a lot of quality, but not yet the stability that it needs to win titles.”

On Tuesday, t-online confronted Joshua Kimmich with Löw’s statements. The DFB captain did not respond directly to the words of his long-time national coach. Rather, Kimmich tried a diplomatic answer.

“We have now played the first game against an opponent who is certainly not at a world-class level,” explained the Bayern star, referring to the opening match in Houston. “We will now face a few tests that will make it easier to see where we stand.” Next Saturday, Germany will face Ivory Coast, the 2024 African champions, in Toronto (from 10 p.m. in the t-online live ticker). The final group game will then take place in East Rutherford against Ecuador, the runners-up in the South American qualifiers.

Conceded goal against Curaçao: “We can’t allow so much”

Kimmich is now confident that he will be able to solve the upcoming tasks. “I believe that we have very great qualities to be able to hurt very, very many opponents,” he emphasized, but at the same time also admitted: “Of course we have to work on stability. We can’t allow so much and we also have to concede fewer goals.” A goal against a small opponent like Curaçao should not happen.
