The motorist who collided with a truck on the A73 on Tuesday evening has been arrested. The 25-year-old man from Venray was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The collision happened around 6:45 PM near Venray-Noord. According to a police spokesperson, the driver of the car first hit the center guardrail, then turned to the right and slammed into the truck.

Soon after the accident it became clear that the Venraynaar was under the influence. That was confirmed after an initial test. Blood tests have yet to show exactly what the man has used and how much. The motorist was arrested immediately after the accident and taken to the police station in Venlo.

None of the people involved needed to be taken by ambulance, the police spokesperson confirmed. The trailer of the truck has a flat tire. The right lane was closed for a while and the Venray-Noord exit was closed. The car was towed.
