The couple, who had never been outside Europe, flew to Dallas on Thursday. The atmosphere on the plane was already good, they say. On the bus from the airport in Dallas to the car rental, the tension of the World Cup was already palpable.
John and Erica were sitting next to the father of Micky van de Ven, a player for the Dutch national team, John says. “When I said that we always went to all the Oranje games, he even said that we were a better fan than himself.”
Everything got mixed up
The jet lag wasn’t too bad for John, but they had to get used to the warm climate of Texas. They didn’t have long to do that, because the party started on Saturday. There was one fanfest in Dallas with merchandise and food stalls. “Everything was mixed there, Brazilians, Moroccans, Japanese.” A Dutch hour was organized at 7 p.m., including a performance by Dutch singer Yves Berendse.
