In the Alps in the Mont Blanc massif region, seven mountain climbers died within 24 hours, according to Italian media.
Two climbers died fatally on a wall of Mont Maudit near Mont Blanc on Saturday. Less than four kilometers to the southeast, rescuers have found the body of a mountain climber who died in a fatal accident on a Brenva glacier.
Further east, a mountain climber died on Saturday on the Swiss mountain Matterhorn. His body was transported to Aosta, Italy by Swiss and Italian mountain rescuers.
Three mountain climbers died on Friday when they fell on the north face of the Gran Paradiso, more than 20 kilometers south of the city of Aosta, and fell hundreds of meters.
