From June 11th to July 19th, the Football World Cup, the largest tournament in the history of football, will take place in the USA, Mexico and Canada. A total of 48 national teams are fighting for the title in 104 games over five and a half weeks.

The three hosts have now all started the tournament. While Mexico (2-0 against South Africa) and the USA (4-1 against Paraguay) celebrated victories, Canada played a draw (1-1 against Bosnia and Herzegovina). Trump congratulates the US team on their opening victory

US President Donald Trump congratulated his country’s national team on their opening victory at the World Cup. “Congratulations to Team USA on their significant victory, 4-1, against a very good Paraguayan team,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform. “Keep it up!”

The host USA achieved a convincing victory at the start of the World Cup against Paraguay on Friday with a 4:1 (3:0). The team immediately established themselves as favorites in their Group D. In addition to Paraguay, the US national team also faces Australia and Turkey.

Trump himself did not travel to the arena south of Los Angeles for the game – instead, his Secretary of State Marco Rubio watched the game there.

Two Germans arrested after riots

Two Germans were arrested around 40 minutes before the World Cup kick-off between Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina in Toronto. They are said to have thrown objects at police officers – two officers were slightly injured. According to the police, the men, aged 25 and 27, belonged to a Bosnian fan group.
