According to Axios, the recently released Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models are now subject to export controls. As a result, foreign governments, companies and individuals are not allowed to access them without permission, even if they are in the United States.

According to Axios, the models will remain shielded until the American security apparatus is better prepared for possible risks, for example for cybersecurity. That could be the case within a few weeks.

Competitive advantage

The measure could have major consequences for Europe in the long term. European companies and governments now largely build their AI applications on American models.

If they no longer have access to the best systems, they risk remaining dependent on outdated or less advanced technology, with consequences for their competitive position, security and digital autonomy.
