The United States ambassador to Argentina, Peter Lamelas, visited the Santa Fe Government Headquarters in Rosario this Friday to meet with Governor Maximiliano Pullaro and the Minister of Justice and Security, Pablo Cococcioni. The agenda had two central axes: deepening bilateral cooperation in public security, criminal intelligence and prison management, and exploring specific opportunities for US investment in strategic infrastructure and ports on the Paraná River.

The meeting took place at the Government Headquarters in the city of Rosario. The secretary of International Relations of the province, Claudio Díaz, and the secretary of Foreign Trade, Georgina Losada, also participated. Díaz pointed out that the cooperation agenda with the US Embassy “is very interesting” and that they have been working together on security issues for some time.

After the meeting, Lamelas did not skimp on his praise. In his X account he wrote that the results “speak for themselves” and that the transformation of Santa Fe in terms of security demonstrates “what is possible when there is leadership, decision and commitment to confront organized crime.” He also highlighted “Santa Fe’s potential to attract US investments, particularly in strategic infrastructure and in the development of ports on the Paraná River.”

The visit is not an isolated event on the diplomat’s agenda. Since taking office as the 53rd United States ambassador to Argentina in November 2025, Lamelas has reiterated that “Argentina is not just Buenos Aires” and that the diplomatic mission aims to generate new opportunities throughout the national territory. Along these lines, he has already toured Salta, Jujuy and other provinces, and met with national legislators and leaders of the private sector.

In April, during the annual event of the United States Chamber of Commerce in Argentina (AmCham), Lamelas stressed that his mission is “to work with the Government of President Milei and with the private sector to ensure that Argentina grows again with more economic freedom, more stability and with the United States as its preferred partner.”

Lamelas is a doctor, pharmaceutical businessman and key figure in Donald Trump’s campaign, with a direct line to both the US president and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. His profile combines experience in the health sector with a clear geopolitical vision: building an ideological and economic bridge between Washington and Buenos Aires at a time that both governments describe as being in maximum harmony.

The meeting with Pullaro adds another chapter to that federal landing strategy. The province of Santa Fe, with its ports on the Paraná and its security recovery process, appears on Washington’s radar as one of the most attractive territories to anchor this alliance in concrete facts.
