A man barricaded himself at the Aakaai in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw in Flemish Brabant for almost 7 hours after allegedly making threats. Police and emergency services set up a perimeter and were able to subdue him just after 5:30 p.m.

The incident occurred at the Aakaai in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, on the border with Anderlecht. “Following a police check, a man barricaded himself in an empty building,” said Sabine Lievens, deputy public prosecutor at the Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor’s office, during the incident. “The police and fire brigade are on site because the man allegedly threatened to start a fire. In the interest of the investigation, no more information can be provided at this time.”

According to passers-by, the man is said to have hidden in a shed, possibly with weapons and gas bottles. He allegedly threatened to detonate it. The man was finally overpowered around 5:30 p.m.
