MISSED FRIDAY

The gray, drizzly Friday looks more like October than June, but hang in there. At the end of next week the weather will change and we will have to deal with tropical temperatures that may well exceed thirty degrees. Weatherman Berend van Straaten from Weerplaza predicts that a period of stable summer weather will start on Wednesday, although we do not have to fear the extreme 38 degrees that some weather apps predict. The weekend starts a bit sunnier with temperatures around eighteen degrees. Read the full weather forecast here.

In Boxmeer, neighbors are completely done with the 7-meter-long camper of a local resident that has been in front of the house for more than five months for two years in a row. The owner is not breaking any rules because he parks the camper in his own driveway, but strict rules apply on public roads. In almost all Brabant municipalities, a caravan or camper may be left on the street for a maximum of three days, although there are exceptions such as Son en Breugel where five days is allowed. The number of fines for violations has increased significantly in ten years from 218 in 2015 to 1,175 in 2024. Check the rules in your municipality here.

Eindhoven put a new drinking water factory into use on Thursday, which cost 100 million euros and required more than ten years of preparation. The installation on Antoon Coolenlaan produces 25 billion liters of drinking water annually, enough for 350,000 residents and tens of thousands of companies in the region. According to director Rob van Dongen, the factory is the largest and greenest in the Netherlands, with circular materials, a natural roof and energy exchange with the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swimming Stadium. In the old water factory, Brabant Water wants to create an ‘Evoluon for water’ where visitors can discover how drinking water is produced. Read the full story here.

Former PSV player Danny Koevermans has little sympathy for the prejudices about football in North America. The 47-year-old former international, who played for Toronto FC for two years, states that no Major League Soccer team would be relegated from the Eredivisie. Koevermans sees the Netherlands as an outsider for the world title and points to Portugal as a dark horse, with or without Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting line-up. This year, the World Cup is being organized for the first time by three countries: America, Mexico and Canada. Read his analysis here.

Finally: the GGD in South-east Brabant will be the first in the Netherlands to start a trial in 2027 in which ambulance staff can view patients’ medical information on site. A so-called emergency summary contains information such as a do-not-resuscitate statement, medical history, medication use and allergies. This should help to provide better emergency care and, for example, prevent someone with a do-not-resuscitate declaration from being resuscitated. Ambulance staff can only view the information with the patient’s permission, and the GGD ensures strict security and registration. Read their story here.
