1. FC Köln has signed the Englishman Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on a permanent basis, thereby closing a construction site in central defense.

The 20-year-old has been at FC on loan from Manchester City since the last winter break and now has a contract until 2030. The Bundesliga club announced this on Friday.

“With his performances he has shown what potential he has,” said Cologne managing director Thomas Kessler: “We are all the more pleased that we have now been able to tie him to FC for the long term.” Simpson-Pusey was trained in Manchester City’s youth ranks for twelve years and made his professional debut there in 2024 under Pep Guardiola.

According to media reports, the Cologne team will transfer five million euros to Manchester, meaning the transfer fee would be below the rumored exit clause of around eight million euros. Simpson-Pusey mostly formed the central defense with Cenk Özkacar in the last second half of the season, but FC did not take up the purchase option for the Turk. This means that the club is still looking for a left-footed player for central defense.
