Suomen Kesäteatteri in Valkeakoski is preparing for the upcoming season with anticipation. Viewers get to delve deeper into the life of singer Katri Helena Katri– in the musical.
The singing legend is played by actress Natalil Lintala, 38.
– Exciting in a good way, Lintala laughs when asked about the mood before the premiere.

Katri Helena is often described as a “blue and white voice”, whose songs have been heard by many generations. Lintala understands why Katri Helena is Finland’s favorite artist.
– I greatly admire Katri’s personality. He is a soulful person who is needed to create good around people. When I read his biography, I found a lot of similarities between us.
– We are resolute travelers on our own path and work is important to us. We have the same attitude to life, that it is not appropriate to be bitter about anything, but that every event is a lesson for us and takes us where we need to go.

Lintala says that, like Katri Helena, singing is an important thing in her life. The actor grew up in a musical family, as his father was music advisor Lasse Lintala. Mother Helena Porkka-Lintala has had a long career as a singer and singing teacher.

The Katri musical was written by director Heikki Paavilainen and Tuomas Marjamäki. The story shows moments from Katri Helena’s life. The focus of the musical is of course also the singer’s big hits.
Lintala was able to talk to Katri Helena by phone while she was preparing for her role.
– I was nervous at first, but then after our conversation I felt like I was talking to an old friend.
– He encouraged me a lot and advised me to take on the role with gratitude and joy.

Lintala graduated from Teatterikorkeakoulu in 2012. She has played several roles, but playing a living legend is an interesting challenge.
– Even though I’m playing Katria, I’m not completely trying to be like her. I have decided not to imitate him. I try to aim for presence and contact with the audience, which is unique in Katri Helena’s performance.
Of course there are differences.
– I’m usually very fast and shout a lot with my hands. Katri, on the other hand, is not like that, so I have to pay attention to my physical being in this role.
In addition to Lintala, the stage will feature a number of brilliant Finnish actors such as Lauri Mikkola, Ushma Olava, Joni Leponiemi, Heidi Kirves, Leea Lepistö, Rasmus KoskinenMikko Huoviala and Harri Penttilä.
– This is the first time that all the members of the work group are already familiar to me. We have a safe and comfortable atmosphere. For example, we have been at Teatterikorkeakoulu with Heidi and Usma at the same time.
The Katri musical premiered at Suomen Kesäteatteri on June 9.
