The fact that running is becoming increasingly popular is clearly visible on social media. But some riders are making a lot of progress. They outdo each other on social media by going around in increasingly crazier places. For example, one person runs 5 kilometers under a bench, and the other on top of a see-saw.

By 2025, eight of the ten largest marathons in the Netherlands were completely sold out. According to the NOC*NSF, the number of active runners in our country is almost one million. Those numbers continue to grow, and with them the number of users of tracking apps. The Strava app now has almost two hundred million users around the world.

The fact that the data is also eagerly shared via social media is clearly visible on Instagram, for example. Hundreds of users share their time and distance with their followers every day.

Instagram user Jossa has now gained tens of thousands of followers with a very special way of fitness. The runner recently went viral with a video in which he runs almost a kilometer on a door handle. “This is the fastest 0.7 kilometer on a door handle I have ever seen,” reports one amazed follower.

It’s not just a door handle that needs to be damaged. Jossa has also run 3 kilometers on top of a can of tuna and almost 10 kilometers on an ordinary bench. The Instagrammer promises to run 10 meters for every follower he gets. He does this until he has the full length of the Netherlands in his legs.

Another Dutchman, Tieme Smit, even runs a marathon in an NS train. His fellow passengers count him in the last meters after eight hours and five minutes.

American runner Jacob Abrams Cohen also achieved tens of thousands of views by running 5 kilometers in special places. He has already run on a refrigerator, under a table and in a working elevator.

Whether it can still be called ‘running’ is hotly debated in the comments below the videos. “I’d call this moving 3 miles on top of your refrigerator,” one follower noted.
