What in English is called “base camp” is the headquarters of the national team before or during a tournament. For the World Cup, the teams chose their “home” for the entire group stage: from there they leave for the matches and return to rest. The venues are a mix of local sports complexes, university sports facilities and luxury hotels. With a few exceptions, the teams chose two structures: one in which to stay and the other in which to train. It is often chosen based on proximity to the race cities to minimize travel, but this is not always the case. The teams that qualify for the elimination phase will be able to decide whether to remain in the chosen facilities or to move.
