For the upcoming season, all questions regarding the current Borussia Dortmund squad have been clarified: the contracts of Julian Brandt, Salih Özcan and Niklas Süle, who has now announced the end of his career, will not be extended. The remaining staff are under contract until at least the end of June 2027. With a duo it is supposed to stay that way.
Karim Adeyemi’s future at BVB has been making headlines for weeks. The winger is said to have received an offer that will extend his contract beyond the summer of 2027. If the 24-year-old does not agree, he will probably be made into money.
Things are supposedly different for Marcel Sabitzer and Ramy Bensebaini. The duo, who played 32 (Bensebaini) and 34 (Sabitzer) competitive games in 2025/26, can reportedly not hope for an extension any time soon. This is what the “Ruhr Nachrichten” reports.
Accordingly, the bosses of the Black and Yellows have “no problem letting the contracts of the two World Cup participants expire in the summer of 2027.”
No BVB farewell and no extension
However, both Bensebaini and Sabitzer should still be important parts of the squad for the upcoming season. According to the report, neither actor is on the strike list. Bensebaini and Sabitzer, for their part, have not expressed any desire to turn their backs on Dortmund.
BVB paid around 19 million euros to FC Bayern in the summer of 2023 for midfielder Sabitze, while defender Bensebaini came on a free transfer from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the same summer. However, under the current contract conditions, it would probably not be possible to generate a very generous transfer fee in the upcoming summer transfer period. Especially since Sabitzer at 32 years old and Bensebaini at 31 years old are no longer stocks for the future.
