VfL Osnabrück has presented its third new signing, Lukas Bornschein (21). The central defender comes to the second division promoted team from Hamburger SV on a free transfer. Bornschein was trained with the Rothosen for 13 years, most recently playing for the HSV reserves in the Regionalliga Nord for three seasons. He scored four goals in 75 games.

“Lukas has a high willingness to learn, a sense of responsibility and a great deal of clarity in his game. It is precisely these qualities that we want to promote in young players and develop them further together. As a tall central defender, he knows how to use his stature in the air and has good overall athleticism. He has proven in the Regionalliga Nord that he has great potential,” said technical director Daniel Latkowski.

Sports director Joe Enochs added: “We want to continue on our path with players who have proven themselves in the regional league, can develop further with us and take the next step in their careers together with us. The discussions also confirmed the impression that Lukas and his style are a perfect fit for us at VfL.”

Bornschein, who is the second newcomer to the defense center after Joel Abu Hanna (28), added: “VfL showed me a clear path right from the start. I felt that there was trust in young players and that I could develop both athletically and personally. After a total of 13 years at HSV, I am looking forward to a new challenge in a new environment.”
