The Vegas Golden Knights have presented again in the Stanley Cup Final. In game three of the NHL final series, the Knights won against the Carolina Hurricanes in a thrilling game 5-4. The second title in the young franchise’s history is now only two wins away given the 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Shea Theodore scored the decisive goal in the sixth minute of the second overtime. Vegas thus prevented the Hurricanes’ historic comeback from being rewarded with an away win.
Four goals behind caught up
At first everything seemed like a straightforward matter. Also because attacker Mitch Marner scored three goals within 6:10 minutes, setting a new record for the fastest hat trick in the history of the Stanley Cup Final, Vegas led 4-0 after the second period. “I can’t do something like this alone. The five of us players are perfectly coordinated,” said Marner after he improved the 69-year-old record of the legendary Maurice Richard.

However, Carolina, which had finished the main round as the best team in the East, did not give up. Jordan Martinook, Taylor Hall and Jordan Staal scored within just 39 seconds and reduced the score from 0:4 to 3:4 in the final period. It was the fastest three goals in a row in Stanley Cup Final history. Andrei Svechnikov finally equalized for extra time 1:42 minutes before the end of regular time.
Game four in Las Vegas
There, Theodore finally secured the celebrated home win. Game four takes place again on Tuesday in Las Vegas. For the Knights it is the third Stanley Cup final in their ninth year of existence. In 2023, the franchise from the US state of Nevada secured the trophy.
