Just two weeks after FC Bayern’s triumph, preparations for the new season begin in the DFB Cup. On Saturday evening the tension will rise again during the draw for the first round of the cup. Who gets the dream draw and gets to play against the record champions? And who will BVB, FC Schalke 04, VfB Stuttgart and Co. meet?

sport.de accompanies the draw on Saturday from 6 p.m in the extensive live ticker.

+++ Curtain up in Dortmund +++

The curtain opens at the German Football Museum in Dortmund. The trophy draw ceremony can begin. The representatives of the amateur clubs appeared in large numbers. The dreams are big. For debutant Westfalia Rhynern, for example, they would like FC Schalke 04 to be their opponent. Everyone is united in the hope of a big football festival at the end of August.

+++ It’s about to start +++

The final preparations are underway. The draw for the first round of the DFB Cup will begin in a few minutes. The tension is rising, especially among the smaller clubs. Which games will draw ticket Deniz Aytekin draw?

+++ This is how the drawing works +++

The first round of the DFB Cup is traditionally the epitome of David versus Goliath. The 32 professional teams from the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga will each receive an underdog from the amateur pot.

The outsiders’ pot includes the four weakest teams from last second division season, the top four from the third division and the 24 state cup winners. The teams from the amateur pot are drawn first in the draw and always have home advantage in the first round of the cup.

This time the lottery ticket is referee Deniz Aytekin, who ended his career this summer.

+++ FC Bayern and BVB with special date +++

Before the start of the Bundesliga on August 28th, the first round of the DFB Cup will officially ring in the new season for the top teams. The game will be played on the weekend from August 21st to 24th.

There is a special case for FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund. Since the eternal rivals will fight the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on August 22nd, FCB and BVB have to catch up on their cup games. This will happen on September 1st and 2nd.
