It all happened very quickly: Story paparazzo Edwin Smulders caught folk singer Yves Berendse two Saturdays ago with his new love Amy, the PR lady who marked the definitive end of his seven-year relationship with Sophie. The photos were hopeful, but the timing was bad: the photos are on the cover this week, but it’s already out.

Bush block

What exactly is it? Edwin took the photos on Saturday, May 23, but they are only on the cover this week. The Story comes out every Wednesday, but on the first Wednesday after the photos there was a stumbling block.

Edwin explains in Show news: “Normally we have the deadline on Monday, but last week it was Pentecost, so the deadline was the Friday before, so those photos could only be included this week. The photos are already ten days old.”

App from Yves

And then? Edwin: “Then this week, very early on Monday morning at 4:30 am, I received a text from Yves: ‘Is the story through yet?’ I say, ‘No, we have a deadline today.’ He says, ‘Oh, then I have to tell you something, because it’s over.’ I passed that on to the editors and they made that story.”

Yves says in a written response to the magazine: “It’s already over. We are simply too different and don’t fit together as well as we hoped.”

Pink cloud

Story’s conclusion? “The proverbial pink cloud disappeared very quickly. The early relationship is already over! And yet the photos on these pages were so hopeful. His new romance marked the definitive end of his seven-year relationship with Sophie.”

“For her, the break is a big drama. Especially because she always supported him unconditionally, even when he was still unknown and had to work hard for his success. Due to the pressure of great success and an overcrowded agenda, the two probably grew apart. The big question is whether, and with whom, the singer still wants to go Back In Time…”
