Mayor Jean-Marie Dedecker speaks of a great loss for Flanders and for Middelkerke. “Margriet Hermans has helped put our seaside resort on the map for years,” he says. “She was not only an artist with a big voice, but also a woman with a big heart.”
Dedecker also had a close personal relationship with Hermans. Both participated together in the television program ‘Back to your own country’, in which they followed the refugee route to Europe.
“We will continue to remember her in Middelkerke as a warm and committed personality who added color to our municipality,” said the mayor.
