The NRG Stadium will also host several games during the 2026 World Cup. The DFB team will start the tournament here against Curaçao.
The NRG Stadium in Houston is one of the venues for the 2026 World Cup. During the tournament, the arena will be called the Houston Stadium. With around 72,000 seats, it is one of the larger stadiums at the World Cup.
The German national team will play in this stadium on June 14th. start the tournament against Curaçao. Despite the high temperatures in the state, it won’t be particularly hot on the field during the game – the stadium has a retractable roof and is air-conditioned. In Toronto and New York, where Germany will play against Ivory Coast (Toronto) and Ecuador (New York), important points in Group E are at stake in the open air. Things could get a little hotter there. It was particularly hot in New York during last year’s Club World Cup.
Houston Stadium is located in the state of Texas and is the home stadium of the NFL’s Houston Texans. This puts it geographically in the central region of the tournament.

World Cup 2026: A stadium with an early pioneering role
NRG Stadium opened in 2002 and was one of the first stadiums to have a fully retractable roof. This meant that it was considered particularly technically advanced at the time of construction. The arena was designed for various major events and is still used in a variety of ways today.
In addition to football games, the stadium has already hosted several international sporting events. These include, among other things, two Super Bowls as well as games in the Gold Cup and the Copa América. The final of the Gold Cup 2025 was also held here.
