McLaren is celebrating a milestone in Formula 1 at the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend. The Papaya speedster receives a special paint job.

The traditional British team will be competing in the premier class of motorsport for the 1000th time.

McLaren is celebrating its anniversary in Formula 1 with a special design. In Monaco the car will once again be in orange and black, and a large 1000 can be seen on the side pods. Further successes are also immortalized on the car.

Only Ferrari with more races in Formula 1

Incidentally, McLaren first competed in Formula 1 in 1966 – in Monaco, of all places. At the weekend, things come full circle in the principality’s urban canyons.

On Thursday, McLaren will celebrate its milestone with a special event. As the racing team announced, the team’s first F1 car will line up on the starting grid alongside the current MCL40. In addition, all of the racing team’s living Grand Prix winners as well as F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali are invited, said McLaren.

“We are only the second team to achieve this incredible milestone [nach Ferrari, Anm.d.Red.] “So there’s no better time to reflect on our past, our present and our future,” McLaren CEO Zak Brown is quoted as saying.

To date, the British have celebrated 203 GP victories, 561 podium places, 177 pole positions, 13 Drivers’ World Championships and ten Constructors’ World Championships in Formula 1. Lando Norris triumphed in the previous season and the team also won the World Championship.

McLaren has not yet found a remedy against Mercedes

In 2026, McLaren has not yet found a remedy against Mercedes. The Silver Arrows have won all five races so far.

The recent Canadian Grand Prix was particularly bitter for McLaren. Norris retired with a technical defect, Oscar Piastri also remained without points in eleventh place after a collision and the subsequent penalty.
