PSV has been considering the departure of Ismael Saibari in the summer for some time. That could happen faster than expected, now that Bayern Munich has become one of the serious candidates for him.
Saibari wanted to concentrate on the World Cup and then go on holiday, but it is now clear that the German top club is considering him as reinforcement. PSV is now aware of the interest.
It is not yet possible to say whether Saibari will actually go to Germany in the coming period. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported the interest on Tuesday morning, which has become more topical after another deal (for Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United to FC Barcelona) did not materialize.
In addition, it must first be clear what PSV would like to receive for him. The club management in Eindhoven wants it to be a gigantic amount, as became clear earlier.
When AZ player Kees Smit reported a sum of 60 million euros in media reports last season, people at PSV were surprised about what Saibari should be worth. A higher amount therefore seems to be a logical starting point, although the question is what Bayern is actually willing to pay.
Saibari has little money on the balance sheet
The Moroccan international still has a three-year contract in Eindhoven, where he is on the balance sheet for little money. Saibari was acquired from KRC Genk for €200,000 in 2020 and his value has only increased since then.
It is clear that PSV wants to break a transfer record and by a large margin. Now Cody Gakpo is still the player who earned the most money in Eindhoven: at the end of 2023 that was about 50 million euros.
