After a disappointing season, AC Milan threw out the entire club management. Two former faces of the Bundesliga are apparently supposed to get the club back on the road to success.

In the race for the coaching position at AC Milan, the Austrian Oliver Glasner is apparently the favorite. According to the Italian sports newspaper “Gazzetta dello Sport”, the previous coach of Crystal Palace, who said goodbye to the English club after winning the Conference League, will hold talks with the management of the traditional club on Tuesday.

According to media reports, Ralf Rangnick in particular is campaigning for Glasner. The current Austrian national coach is therefore considered a candidate for the position of sports director at Milan. Rangnick is currently said to be in talks with the Austrian association about his future. The result could also have an impact on the Rossoneri’s efforts to recruit Glasner.

Conversations in Vienna

According to Gazzetta, Milan owner Gerry Cardinale and advisor Zlatan Ibrahimović recently traveled to Vienna to speak to Rangnick. His contract as Austrian team leader expires after the 2026 World Cup and an extension is still pending. Milan had already tried in vain for Rangnick in 2020. Six years later, the 67-year-old could now join the club in a different role.

After a disappointing season, Milan dismissed its entire sporting leadership. Coach Massimiliano Allegri as well as sporting director Igli Tare, CEO Giorgio Furlani and technical director Geoffrey Moncada have left the club after failing to qualify for the Champions League. The majority owner of the club has been the US investment company RedBird Capital Partners since 2022.

If they were to join Milan, Rangnick and Glasner would probably not work with Niclas Füllkrug. The “Rossoneri” are unlikely to take up the purchase option for the attacker, so he will initially return to his parent club West Ham United. However, the 33-year-old is said to no longer have a future there. In addition to clubs from Germany, Serie A promoted FC Venice is also considered interested.
