Bad news for Bayer Leverkusen: The Bundesliga club’s search for a coach is becoming increasingly complicated. Two of the hottest candidates could already be off the market.
Bayer Leverkusen’s search for a coach became a lot more difficult over the weekend. Sports director Simon Rolfes apparently has to delete the names of two candidates from his list.
After it was already reported on Saturday that Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola was the absolute top candidate at Liverpool FC following the expulsion of Arne Slot, the “Gazetta dello Sport” indicated on Sunday that Oliver Glasner would probably not move to the Rhine either.
Rangnick wants to bring Glasner to Milan
According to the sports newspaper, the outgoing Crystal Palace coach has already arranged a meeting with the AC Milan club management. This is scheduled to take place on Tuesday. Glasner is therefore not averse to taking the job south of the Alps.
What speaks for the ex-Frankfurt coach’s move to the Rossoneri: According to “Gazzetta” information, Ralf Rangnick is also about to move to Milan. He is supposed to become the new sports director there after the World Cup and is reportedly working hard to sign Glasner. After a disappointing season, the Milanese had given up the red pencil and dismissed their entire sporting management, including the coach.
Glasner is Bayer Leverkusen’s top favorite
According to consistent reports, Glasner in particular was or is Bayer Leverkusen’s absolute preferred candidate. Last week, “Bild” wrote about “advanced talks” between the two parties, which are apparently not bearing fruit.
It remains to be seen what the future plans of Rolfes and Co. will look like. However, there is much to suggest that the search for a new trainer will now have to start all over again.
