Chosen to open the latest Berlin Film Festival, the film by Afghan director Shahrbanoo Sadat was a romantic comedy that becomes dramatic news for a television operator in 2021 Kabul.

Every day she has to prove that she is just as valuable as her male colleagues and, at the same time, fighting against the husband from whom she would like to divorce, but to whom Afghan law assigns all custody rights over her three-year-old son.

And while he manages to win the respect of the journalist he works with, the Americans announce their withdrawal from Kabul and give the green light to the Talibanwith all the foreseeable consequences for the fate of women.

From this perspective the film (inspired by the story of the director herself, who also plays the protagonist, and shot in Germany for obvious reasons) becomes an indictment of the West which abandoned a fragile nation in the face of the fundamentalist wavebut it is also an opportunity to reclaim the strength of women who try to defend their rights and the discovery that, despite the title (as the protagonist claims with her friends), some good men still exist.

For those who don’t want to forget what it means to live in Afghanistan.
