Hans Klok is already 57 years old and of course cannot lie in a coffin with ropes indefinitely. What’s next? Will he soon become a TV star, for example at AvroTros or RTL 4? “Never!”
After decades full of disappearing acts, floating assistants and sold-out theaters, Hans Klok is not thinking about stopping. Yet the question slowly arises as to what the master illusionist will do if he ever slows down a bit. A TV career seems like an option, but you shouldn’t touch that with Hans. A contract with AvroTros or RTL 4? No.
AvroTros doesn’t want to
When asked whether he is ever afraid that he could be written off from one day to the next, Hans says: “I live in a world in which I am not dependent on broadcasters and production houses.”
He likes the fact that he is not dependent on the uncertain TV world, although it also has disadvantages. “I came up with a very nice program for the AvroTros. Initially they were enthusiastic, but they did not dare to take the risk,” he says in the Weekend.
No contract
Why didn’t AvroTros want such a big name like Hans Klok? “I said to Dann: ‘Of course they may think: nice idea, but we already have so many people under contract. So we will not let Hans Klok present that but someone else.’”
He continues: “But I wouldn’t like a TV contract myself, because then they push you into programs that are not your first choice.”
Day off
For the time being, Hans focuses entirely on magic. “Two years ago I presented my theater show Face The Future and I was very happy that I received many positive reactions. Because of course people may also think: we have seen that Hans Klok once! My luck is that I have an exceptional profession.”
“You can’t compare me with anyone else, which is what happens with singers, actors and TV faces. That is my salvation. And of course also that I always put my shoulders to the wheel. I don’t let the cheese get to me. Every day off I spend on my career, I always try to come up with something new.”
