US President Donald Trump says a deal with Iran has largely been agreed. He states that the proposal provides, among other things, for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

“The final aspects and details of the deal are currently being discussed and will be announced shortly,” the US president wrote in a message on his Truth Social platform.

Trump reports in his message that he had a “very good” conversation with foreign leaders about Iran and a proposal for peace. He mentions, among others, the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. Trump also said he had a good telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to the president, the current deal still requires final approval from the United States, Iran and other countries. Apart from the communication about the Strait of Hormuz, he does not go into detail about what exactly is agreed.

Insiders told news site Axios that regional leaders urged Trump to agree to the deal and stop the war “in the interest of the entire region.”

In the run-up to Trump’s announcement, an American source told the news site that the deal was almost complete. In particular, the wording of certain points would be examined. The proposal reportedly calls for an end to the war followed by at least 30 days of negotiations on issues such as Iran’s nuclear program. Trump has not yet confirmed that.
