Essent is increasing its variable rates and that does not bode well for the rest: ‘We really need to get rid of the double tax on energy’

Essent will be the first to increase its variable rates for electricity and gas from 1 July, after three quarters of declines. The tariffs reflect the effect of the extreme gas and oil prices due to the Iran war. Essent advocates an intervention in the energy bill, with the abolition of ‘double’ taxation: VAT on energy tax.
