Fire brigade turned out for underground fire at Buinerveen solar park

An underground fire started at Buinerveen solar park this morning. The fire probably started in the cabling. Fire brigades from 2e Exloërmond and Borger went out to fight the fire.

The Drenthe Safety Region (VRD) reports that the fire was under control around noon, and there was therefore no longer any danger to the immediate environment. The work has now been transferred to the park manager.

The fire was reported just after 8:30 this morning. Passers-by had noticed smoke and they alerted the fire brigade. With the help of a thermal imager it became clear that this is an underground fire over an area of one to two meters.

Extinguishing the fire was difficult because of the current and electrocution hazard. The potential damage is not yet known.

Yesterday the fire brigade also reached the solar park twice, then on the side of the Paardetangendijk. “In both cases smoke was reported by passers-by,” said a spokesperson for VRD. “After an on-site inspection, the fire service did not observe anything.” Hooghweg Energy was however informed about the situation.
