Rob Goossens does not understand at all that Johnny de Mol is given the opportunity to present De Oranjezomer again for two weeks after last year’s debacle. “Should have left it!”
Johnny de Mol is anything but the talk show host you dream of. He was seen for weeks last summer as a substitute for Hélène Hendriks, who had to drop out due to a back operation, but failed to impress the viewer. It was a great relief when Thomas van Groningen took over at one point.
New opportunity
However, for SBS 6 owner John de Mol, the massive criticism at the time is subordinate to family interests, because he gives his son a new chance and that is why he can present De Oranjezomer again for two weeks this summer.
TV critic Rob Goossens is really surprised. “Yes, that was not announced. In fact, it was announced that Hélène would simply do De Oranjezomer and that was it, but he says in passing that he will take over for two weeks anyway,” he says at the desk of RTL Boulevard.
‘Should have left it!’
Rob didn’t see this coming. “That wasn’t a resounding success last year, so I actually understood that that wasn’t going to happen, but yes, he says it is.”
Colleague Morad El Ouakili gives Johnny the benefit of the doubt. “He could also have taken steps, right, in a year.”
Rob: “It’s possible. Yes, it’s possible. But if I were him I would have left it as it was.”
Two weeks of chores
Perhaps the need was urgent and both Hélène and Thomas went on holiday at the same time, according to Rob. “Maybe the channel said: ‘There’s really no one who can do it, even the toilet attendant doesn’t want to do it, so Johnny, please help us out.’”
He concludes: “Then he is of course just the responsible man who is willing to take on those two weeks of chores.”
