The comeback season of The Voice of Holland was not a flop, but not a big hit either. Yesterday’s finale even goes down as the worst-watched finale ever. “It was a mess!”
TV authority Tina Nijkamp was very surprised yesterday by the final evening of The Voice of Holland. Due to budget cuts, the RTL 4 show had no live shows this year — everything was already on tape — but at the last minute it was decided to broadcast the results live. That had to be in RTL Tonight, where The Voice continued last night.
Sneak preview
Tina thinks it’s strange that we already saw fragments of the already recorded final on RTL Boulevard. “Are we all seeing images from the final of The Voice on RTLBoulevard? Very strange,” she wrote analysis channel. “You don’t want to know what they are going to sing, do you???? Clothing is no longer a surprise.”
She also thought the show’s line-up was poor. “It’s a pity that two talents first do a duet (Sanne and Thijs) and the other two first do a solo. The order is not entirely logical. Having to sing last in the final (Ruben) is not often a disadvantage in talent shows. I’m betting on Ruben to win. Also had the best songs by far.”
Ruben winner
Ruben was indeed the winner, but the result in RTL Tonight did not please Tina either. “Huh? What is this? The lines will only close in twenty minutes????? This is just a final after a final. Bizarre. And entire families are watching, only the results will be announced at 10.45 pm?”
“The whole idea of having to perform in a final doesn’t matter, we now get a very long summary of the entire series and their singles too!”
Poorly viewed
All in all it was a successful comeback this season, according to Tina. “But it wasn’t a flawless finale, because it wasn’t all that bad: fragments and outfits that had already been shown on TV before the finale, messy in terms of line-up because duo singing and solos were mixed up, and above all a talk show where the finale was repeated again and again.”
How were the viewing figures? “The finale of The Voice had 1.297 million viewers. And that is unfortunately somewhat disappointing. In fact, it is MUCH lower than what most The Blind Auditions scored, for example. The first episode on January 16 scored a linear 1.867 million viewers.”
Least viewed
It is too by far the least watched Voice final ever, according to Tina. “That record low has so far stood at 2020 with 1.8 million viewers. The most recent final in 2021 had 2.1 million viewers linear.”
RTL Tonight, in which the results were announced, had 1.075 million viewers. “Less than the final itself. As expected, a viewing figure record for RTL Tonight. The talk show has never scored above a million before. The first broadcast of RTL Tonight on August 31 attracted 897 thousand viewers.”
