North duel was interrupted
Holstein Kiel’s record looks better against a few opponents than against Hamburger SV. On the 29th matchday of the 2nd Bundesliga, KSV von der Förde continued their unbeaten record against HSV. The minute-long use of pyrotechnics in the HSV block caused excitement among the Kiel fans at the start of the game, as before. The players had meanwhile returned to the dressing room. Meanwhile, when Karlsruher SC drew in Paderborn, striker Philipp Hofmann scored his 50th goal in KSC’s 100th game. Dresden lost in the relegation battle in Sandhausen.
Hamburger SV has little chance of returning to the Bundesliga. Coach Tim Walter’s team lost 1-0 (0-1) to northern rivals Holstein Kiel on Sunday and is sixth with five games to go. Hamburg are eight points behind a direct promotion place. After winning the catch-up game against Erzgebirge Aue five days earlier, the Hanseatic League missed the chance to make up more ground in the 2nd Bundesliga.
The goal in front of 15,034 spectators in the sold-out Holstein Stadium was scored by Kwasi Wriedt (13th minute) with a counterattack for the hosts. The game was interrupted for ten minutes shortly after kick-off due to pyrotechnics firing in the HSV block.
To the data sheet of the game
The guests were not put off by the early goal and brought up their well-known ball possession football. But there were hardly any compelling chances against the defensive bulwark of the Kieler. The defensive hosts refrained from high pressure, formed up compactly in front of their own penalty area, let the Hamburg team run and relied on counterattacks.
For Hamburg, Holstein Kiel remains a feared opponent. They have never won against the team from the Baltic Sea in the second division. The record is three Kiel victories and five draws. The Schleswig-Holsteiners, who had only won one game in the previous six games, caught up with the middle of the league with a threesome.
Thalhammer saves Paderborn 2:2 against KSC – Hofmann scores for the anniversary
SC Paderborn has not shed its weakness at home in the 2nd Bundesliga and has remained without a win in the eighth game in a row in its own stadium. However, the East Westphalians still managed to save a 2-2 (1-1) against their neighbors in the table, Karlsruher SC, after a 2-1 deficit on Sunday and have been waiting for a threesome in the Benteler Arena for more than five months. With 41 points, the hosts, who were outnumbered for almost the entire second half after a red card for Uwe Hünemeier (47th), defended their eighth place in the table ahead of KSC, who remained undefeated in the fourth game in a row, but missed the chance to pass the Paderborners.
Hofmann joins Glatzel & Co.: Best scorers 2nd Bundesliga 2021/22
In front of 9652 spectators, including 3814 free tickets for medical staff from the area, Kai Pröger (30th minute) scored the opening goal for the SCP after an opening pass from Philipp Klement. Marvin Wanitzek (36′) scored to make it 1-1 after preparatory work by Benjamin Goller, before striker Hofmann (69′) headed in his fifth goal in a row and the 17th to make it 2-1 for the guests. Maximilian Thalhammer then saved his team’s draw in the 84th minute.
2:1 in the basement duel: Sandhausen sets itself apart from Dresden
SV Sandhausen has taken a big step towards remaining in the 2nd Bundesliga and exacerbated Dynamo Dresden’s relegation worries. The Badeners defeated the Saxons on Sunday with goals from Dario Dumic (7th minute) and Erik Zenga (48th) 2-1 (1-0). Tim Knipping scored for the guests (65th). In the table, Sandhausen is 15th and now six points ahead of the Dresdners who have not won this year in relegation rank 16. Their advantage over Ingolstadt in the first direct relegation zone is nine points.
The ex-Dresdner Dumic gave Sandhausen a dream start. Dynamo keeper Kevin Broll was able to parry a header from captain Dennis Diekmeier, who extended his contract with SVS until 2024 and later had to be replaced, just like striker Pascal Testroet. But he was powerless when Dumic shot from a few meters. Shortly after the break, Zenga took advantage of Dynamo’s Paul Will loss of possession to make it 2-0. The former SVS professional Knipping brought the hitherto harmless guests closer with his head. As a result, there were more chances for both sides, but no more goals.
