According to coach Niko Kovac, the season has ended early for Borussia Dortmund defender Ramy Bensebaini. The Algerian, who was missing in the 1-0 defeat at his former club Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday, is still suffering from a foot injury.
“It’s not working with Ramy. He’s still in pain,” said Kovac before the game on Friday (8:30 p.m./Sky) against Eintracht Frankfurt. “I personally believe that it won’t work in the next game in Bremen either. That means that that’s it for him for the Bundesliga – of course not for the World Cup.” There the Algerians will meet world champions Argentina, Austria and Jordan in the group phase.
BVB again with Süle, Nmecha and Adeyemi?
On the other hand, attacker Karim Adeyemi is set to make his comeback after muscular problems and missing three games. The 24-year-old is back in full team training. Felix Nmecha and Niklas Süle, who were also recently injured, trained at least partially integrated. They should decide whether to play against Frankfurt on Thursday. “I would like all three to be an alternative again,” emphasized Kovac. Together, the trio has a market value of 104 million euros.
There is currently a lot of unrest at his former club, with whom he won the cup in 2018. Coach Albert Riera is said to be on the verge of being eliminated. For BVB there is hardly anything at stake, second place is almost certain before the penultimate matchday (in terms of potential final positions). Nevertheless, Kovac sees reason to make amends after the disappointment in the Borussia duel: “We want to show our fans something again and end the season in second place.”
