A classic from the RS archives from 2018.

The fact that the relationship between Joseph Jackson, who died on June 27, 2018, and his children was “not very easy” is certainly an understatement. The patriarch was proud of not only having beaten his children to success as the boy band Jackson 5, later The Jacksons.

One of his most famous quotes about career planning was: “I don’t think Michael was afraid of me. What he was afraid of, he may do something wrong and I’d chastise him but not beat him. I never beat him like the media tried to say.”

Joseph was always committed to the solo careers of his offspring Michael and Janet Jackson.

The dispute with the children went so far that mega star Michael even had his father Joseph removed from his will. The only heirs to the fortune of the singer, who died in 2009, were his mother Katherine and his three children.

Now Joseph Jackson, who succumbed to pancreatic cancer last Wednesday, has been laid to rest. He was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California. Michael’s grave is also located there, in a mausoleum. The private ceremony was also attended by Janet Jackson, Photos of it can be found here.

According to TMZ, his wife Katherine and several of his children and grandchildren were with him during his final hours. Jackson is said to have been battling cancer for some time. He had been struggling with serious health problems since 2015 after suffering multiple heart attacks. Jackson announced his death on Twitter a few days ago. He wrote on the social network: “I’ve seen more sunsets than I have left to see. The sun rises when it’s time and – like it or not – the sun sets when it’s time.”
