Patty Brard thinks it is scandalous that NOS is doing this with its report on the Eurovision Song Contest, while we are not even participating. “Ridiculous. No one understands it either.”

The AvroTros is anti-Israel and has therefore decided not to send an artist to the Eurovision Song Contest this year. In fact, they don’t even broadcast it. That is why the NOS took over and they are doing quite well with it. They are sending an entire delegation to Vienna to report extensively on the countries that are participating this year.

‘Ridiculous!’

Telegraaf reporter Jordi Versteegden finds it striking that the broadcaster, for example, has appointed two commentators and has Merel Westrik do the preview. “It seems as if NOS, which will broadcast it this year, will be bigger than ever, almost, while AvroTros has decided that we will not go this year.”

Patty Brard responds to this Show news: “Ridiculous. No one understands it, they don’t understand it throughout Europe either. You can’t use the word ‘boycott’ if the NOS then goes there with an entire team to report.”

No specials

Celebrity expert Bart Ettekoven thinks so too too much. “Other countries that boycott it really don’t broadcast it. It’s okay to broadcast it, but you don’t have to come up with specials and previews around it.”

Jordi gives Merel Westrik that job, but: “It is of course quite strange, because she is a freelancer. The NOS also has Jeroen Stomphorst who wrote Always Bachelor by Gerard Joling. Then put him forward to do that preview.”

Gee mya

Patty can’t reach it with her hat. “Yes, but I also think: gosh, if you boycott something, you wouldn’t go there like the NOS with about twenty people for lunch for a week, sit in a hotel, everything. I think they were already short of money there, right?”

Jordi: “I think there are about twenty of them.”

Patty: “It’s our money, right?”

Jordi: “Yes, we have to be careful with that, but especially in a year when we have decided not to go. Then you don’t have to go so big.”

Do not unpack

Patty thinks it should be much more sober. “Absolutely. Don’t unpack, I think.”

She points out that Shownieuws research shows that 72 percent of people will not watch this year. “If 72 percent of the Netherlands decide not to watch and you send a whole delegation to make a big fuss about it, including a very sweet Merel… What do you do? Then you don’t understand it.”
