The largest family history event in the Netherlands visited Drenthe today. The Drenthe Archive was host to Het Famillement. “It is a very beautiful day for family history enthusiasts,” says Daantje Hoogenboom on behalf of the Center for Family History (CBG).
It is the first time that this annual event is coming to Drenthe. The choice fell on Assen. “We have 15,000 friends at the MEB, spread throughout the Netherlands. We do not want them to go to The Hague every year, where we are located, but also to go to the provinces,” Hoogenboom explains.
“For example, we have already been to Deventer, Amsterdam and Leeuwarden. And now to Assen. Every year we look for a new collaboration and that has now become the Drenthe Archives. That is great fun.”
Joke Wolf had been trying to get the event to the Drenthe Archives for some time. “The Drenthe Archives is of course very active in family histories,” she says. “We have many sources that are waiting for people to consult them. Both digital sources and original archive documents. We are happy to open our archive to that.”
