Hélène Hendriks gets quite a sneer from some TV critic from the Volkskrant. She thinks her talk show De Oranjezondag is too familiar to us. “Snacks table!”

The Hélène Hendriks talk show De Oranjezondag causes quite a bit of annoyance for Siem Buijsse, television critic for de Volkskrant. He thinks her program is not diverse enough and expresses his dissatisfaction about that in the newspaper. His main criticism is that too often the same guests are at the table and that they are having a great time together.

Not diverse

Siem thinks that Hélène would really do well to get some more diversity at the table. “Of course, every talk show has regular faces. But nowhere is familiarity cultivated as much as at De Oranjezondag.”

He continues: “You don’t have to watch it for new insights. You do have to watch it for the feeling that you are joining a drinks table full of old acquaintances, who are making the same jokes and expressing the same opinions.”

First names

Siem notices that Hélène only has to announce her guests by their first names. “’Home on 6′ is the channel’s slogan for good reason. Although it is not the kind of home where this reviewer feels comfortable.”

He points to Raymond Mens who makes a joke about the weight of Thomas van Groningen, Rutger Castricum who wins a tompouce eating competition. “And Hélène wondered whether the right to demonstrate should not be restricted because of those annoying Extinction Rebellion blockades.”

The Volkskrant reviewer sighs: “More of the same…”
