Wahi will “travel to Canada and, as usual, at the World Cup participate,” it said in a statement. The association is “pleased about this positive result and thanks everyone involved who contributed to solving this problem.”

Wahi was apparently temporarily taken into police custody in France before his World Cup trip. The Marseille public prosecutor’s office confirmed to the German Press Agency that a 23-year-old footballer was arrested on May 29th on suspicion of manipulation. “The Athletic” first reported on the case.

Investigations are still ongoing

“The Marseille public prosecutor’s office confirms that a 23-year-old professional footballer who plays in the French Ligue 1 was arrested on May 29, 2026 as part of an investigation by the Marseille public prosecutor’s office (…) on suspicion of gang fraud, gang-related corruption in sports, receiving stolen goods and money laundering,” the public prosecutor’s office said in response to a query about Wahi without mentioning his name. After the interrogation, the player was released again and the investigation was continuing.

Specifically, Wahi will play a French first division game on May 17th, reported “The Athletic”. Wahi is therefore suspected of intentionally receiving a yellow card in the duel with FC Metz. The French league announced that it had been informed of atypical events in international sports betting with regard to the game. An unusually high amount of money was placed on a warning from Wahi. The league contacted the French judiciary.
