There has been speculation about Manuel Neuer’s future for months. Now the FC Bayern goalkeeper is clearing things up.

Manuel Neuer has probably decided to continue his career, Sky reports. Accordingly, he wants to extend his stay in Munich for another year. This is matched by a report from “Bild”, in which photos of Neuer’s advisor Thomas Kroth can be seen at the FC Bayern club premises.

Neuer has been guarding FC Bayern’s goal since 2011 and has played almost 600 competitive games for Munich. Whether there will be further appearances after this season has been the subject of great speculation for weeks. Because his contract is expiring, he wanted to make a decision based primarily on his physical condition. Now he probably likes it.

Negotiations on a new contract began on Thursday and there has not yet been an agreement. However, it shouldn’t take both parties too long to reach a common denominator. Sports director Max Eberl, for example, has emphasized several times in the past that the record champions would like to extend the contract with Neuer and are waiting for a corresponding signal.

The goalkeeper played 596 competitive games in almost 15 years at FC Bayern, winning numerous titles: in addition to 13 championships and six DFB Cup victories, there was also a double triumph in the Champions League. A third handle pot could be added this season.

The role of Jonas Urbig is also likely to be part of the discussions between Neuer and Bayern. According to Sky, the young goalkeeper, who has already made 18 appearances this season due to injuries to his experienced colleague, will receive even more playing minutes in the coming season.
